LAMDA Audition Guide

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art — renowned for its rigorous classical training and strong industry connections.

Official requirements

LAMDA requires two contrasting speeches: one Shakespeare and one from a play written after 1960. Each should be no longer than two minutes. Recalls involve working on your speeches with faculty, a group workshop, and an interview. LAMDA also offers auditions at regional centres and internationally.

What panels look for

LAMDA values actors who show intellectual engagement with the text. They look for evidence that you understand the language, particularly with Shakespeare — not just the general meaning but the specific imagery and rhetoric. They want to see actors who are genuinely affected by what they are saying and can shift and change within a speech.
