Admiral Cain confronts Maverick about his stalled career and insubordinate nature, informing him that his era of piloting is coming to an end. However, a last-minute call saves Maverick from being grounded, sending him back to Top Gun.
Maverick prepares for a high-stakes test flight in the experimental Darkstar aircraft. He goes through pre-flight checks with Hondo, who tries to dissuade him from the dangerous mission. Maverick ultimately commits to the flight, pushing the throttle forward.
