Leontes Monologues

King Leontes, consumed by unfounded jealousy and convinced his newborn daughter is a bastard, commands Antigonus to abandon the infant in a remote, desert place to face the elements.

King Leontes, still mourning the perceived loss of his family due to his own past jealousy, greets Florizel and Perdita. He is struck by Florizel's resemblance to his father, Polixenes, and laments the children and friendship he lost to his own folly.

King Leontes publicly accuses his pregnant wife, Hermione, of adultery and treason with his childhood friend Polixenes. Despite her calm and dignified defense, Leontes orders her to be taken to prison.

King Leontes confronts his trusted advisor Camillo, accusing him of negligence or dishonesty for failing to notice the alleged infidelity of the Queen. Leontes' growing paranoia and jealousy begin to manifest as he demands Camillo acknowledge the 'slippery' nature of his wife.

King Leontes puts his wife, Queen Hermione, on trial for adultery and conspiracy. Hermione defends her honor and her love for Polixenes as platonic, while a paranoid Leontes condemns her to death.

King Leontes descends into a fit of sudden, irrational jealousy as he watches his wife, Hermione, interact with his childhood friend, Polixenes. He convinces himself he is being cuckolded and reflects bitterly on the perceived infidelity of women.

King Leontes descends into a paranoid delusion, convinced that his wife has been unfaithful. He uses the metaphor of a spider in a cup to describe the sickening realization of his perceived betrayal.

In the final moments of the play, King Leontes seeks reconciliation and restoration after years of grief. He arranges a marriage for Paulina and asks for forgiveness from those he wronged, marveling at the miraculous return of his wife.

King Leontes, still mourning his past mistakes, receives Florizel (the son of his estranged friend Polixenes) and Perdita. Leontes is struck by Florizel's resemblance to his father and reflects on the family he lost to his own jealousy.
