    from White House Down

    Written by James Vanderbilt

In the immediate aftermath of a paramilitary attack on the White House, high-ranking government officials and military leaders clash over legal jurisdictions and the chain of command. RAPHELSON: What do we know?

COLONEL JANOWITZ: At 9:17 a.m. an explosive device was detonated in the Capitol. We now believe this to have been a diversion, allowing a paramilitary team to seize control of the White House. They hold an unknown number of hostages, who may or may not include the President of the United States. We do not know their numbers, their capabilities, or their intentions.

    RAPHELSON: So we know nothing.

FINNERTY: We know we're down one Capitol and one White House.
