Daisy, an elderly woman, is being driven by her new chauffeur, Hoke, for the first time. She is highly critical of his driving and tries to assert control over the journey, despite not being able to drive herself. Hoke remains patient and good-humored, navigating her demands.

Hoke, an older Black man, interviews with Boolie Werthan for a driving position. He shares his past experiences and observations about working for Jewish families, attempting to convince Boolie of his suitability for the job.
