A legal professional or social worker assesses a young man's relationship with his father, uncovering feelings of shame and inadequacy.

A young defendant, Jamie, desperately seeks personal validation and approval from Briony, the professional assessing his mental state. As the session ends, Jamie's vulnerability turns into a frantic plea for her to believe in his character and reassure his father of his innocence.

Briony observes a suspect through a one-way mirror while Victor, a security or police staff member, attempts to make small talk. The scene highlights the tension of the investigation contrasted with Victor's awkward attempts to discuss body language and job satisfaction.

Jamie confesses to Briony about his failed attempt to ask a girl out after she was publicly humiliated. He admits to a calculated, albeit unsuccessful, strategy of approaching her when she was at her most vulnerable, only to be rejected and laughed at.

Briony interrogates Jamie, a teenager who reveals his obsession with incel culture and his resentment toward a girl he is accused of killing.
