Orlando Monologues

Orlando expresses his deep resentment toward his eldest brother, Oliver, who has neglected his education and treated him no better than a farm animal. He confides in the loyal servant Adam, declaring that he can no longer endure this indignity and feels his father's spirit prompting him to revolt.

Rosalind, disguised as the youth Ganymede, attempts to convince Orlando that love is a treatable mental illness. She proposes a complex game where Orlando must woo 'him' as if he were his beloved Rosalind, claiming this role-play will eventually cure his heartache.

Orlando, fleeing the murderous intent of his brother Oliver, is intercepted by the elderly servant Adam. Adam offers his life savings and his continued service to help Orlando escape, demonstrating a bond of loyalty that transcends their social stations.

Orlando comforts his elderly servant Adam, who is exhausted and starving as they wander through the Forest of Arden. Orlando encourages Adam to hold onto life while he goes off to find food.

Rosalind, disguised as the boy Ganymede, instructs Orlando on how to woo his beloved Rosalind. She uses sharp wit to challenge his romanticized notions of love and death.

Rosalind (disguised as Ganymede) observes Orlando's melancholy over his brother's sudden engagement. She promises Orlando that through 'magic,' she can ensure he marries his beloved Rosalind the very next day.
