The Big Lebowski
by Ethan, Joel Coen
A mysterious narrator introduces the audience to Jeff 'The Dude' Lebowski, an exceptionally lazy man living in 1990s Los Angeles. The narrator sets the scene and tone of the story while the Dude performs the mundane task of buying milk with a post-dated check.
The Dude is interrogated by the 'Big' Lebowski and his assistant Brandt regarding a botched ransom drop-off. Despite the high stakes of a kidnapping, the Dude attempts to use his own convoluted logic to explain the situation and ask for his fee, only to be met with a gruesome piece of evidence.
Burn After Reading
by Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Harry and Katie lie in bed discussing the dissolution of their respective marriages. While Katie is blunt and decisive about leaving her husband, Harry uses pseudo-philosophical rambling to mask his hesitation and lack of commitment.
Linda, a gym employee, desperately tries to convince her manager Ted to advance her salary for cosmetic surgeries she believes are essential for her dating life. While Ted attempts to express his personal attraction to her and shares his soulful past as a priest, Linda remains hilariously oblivious to his advances, focused entirely on her physical insecurities.
