A pompous Member of Parliament, Robert Crawshaw, is confronted with a bizarre inheritance that requires him to change his name to the ridiculous 'Wurzel-Flummery'. After initially dismissing the offer as a prank, Crawshaw's greed overcomes his dignity as he attempts to justify accepting the money as a 'sacred duty'.
